Our Last Day

It’s our last day in Scottsdale. As has become the norm, we got up around 9am and then worked on making a plan for the day. It really is nice not having a schedule. Too bad that all changes tomorrow when we have to get up early to clean the condo and make our flight.

Today we took the bikes out for another spin. We took the same trail as our first ride, but headed north instead. As it turned out there wasn’t much to see so we ended up turing back south and had a partial do over of our first trip. We couldn’t help but think the kids would really like to ride their bikes on that path.

Yesterday we had a nice leisurely day as well. We went out and bought our dinner, and dessert, in the morning and then went to a matinee in the afternoon. When we got home from the movie we took a walk around the Scottsdale Ranch complex.

An olive tree. There are quite a few around here.

It’s been really nice to be down here this time of year. There is a lot more colour than we’re used to. It’s also kind of neat to see the drainage systems in actual use. A lot of them still have running water in them from the rain back on our first Monday here. Well we’re going to start some pre-cleaning and pick a place for dinner tonight. Back to reality tomorrow!

Gardening would sure be different (and easier, I would think) out there.

Oh, and the worst thing about olive trees (at least back in CA) was that no one would ever bother to pick the olives. And, for some reason, they were thought of as great city street trees. So, they’d eventually drop this load of ripe olives all over the sidewalks, and everyone would just walk across them and press out the oil. Black, ugly mess.

Same thing here. There are patches of squashed olives all over the place. At first we just dodged them without realizing what they were.

As for the gardening, it would be nice. I think the summer would be a bit tricky if you weren’t allowed to irrigate.

That was a fast week. Wow! Welcome back to winter :(

It was way too fast. It will be great to see the kids, but we are not looking forward to seeing the snow.

Snow is great, you just have to exploit it for all of its fun potential… that is what I am realizing this winter anyway. Don’t let the snow beat you.
