After a whirlwind trip to Vancouver and back we are happy to report that Vancouver is a pretty cool place to be during the Olympic Games. Although we didn’t take in the events we were hoping to, it was simply a great experience to be in Vancouver. Mike and Julie were able to join us – what a great time.

The first thing we did was head to the Olympic Cauldron. It was really busy and we were kept back further than usual as the RCMP were on their way, mounted, and in full dress.

<img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4050/4389583633_d7bf4b6be3.jpg" width="333" height="500" alt="Chris and Frances Caldron" /

<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2718/4390351100_98c80a0882.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="In Front of the Caldron" /

Downtown Vancouver is really busy, but not out of hand. I didn’t get a good Robson crowd shot, but here is one from the Waterfront. Frances and I walked from Yale Town to Waterfront after 10pm and were not the least bit worried.

In the evening Mike was able to get us tickets to a Victory Ceremony. As luck would have it Alshleigh McIvor was getting her gold medal for Ski Cross. It was really cool being there with 25,000 people singing the Canadian national anthem. Just a great experience. I tried really hard not to let the Billy Talent show taint my mood!

After the ceremony we walked to Waterfront to grab the Sky Train. The Olympic Cauldron is much more impressive at night.

Yep, we’re so glad we got to take in just a little bit of the Olympic experience.

On day two of our trip we got to spend the day with the Breedvelds and visit their new house. We watched the Swiss hockey game, and then went for dinner with everyone to watch the Canada – Russia game. It was so loud in the restaurant when Canada scored that Nate jumped every time. I got the Breedveld boys to stay still long enough to take a couple pictures.

Go Canada Go!

We’ve got it bad at the Leboe household. We’ll watch anything if it’s Olympics – luge, skeleton, even men’s figure skating (love those outfits). We’ve got our red mittens, our stuffed Quatchi and MukMuks, pins etc… The best news is that Chris and I are heading down to Vancouver on Tuesday and will be getting a bit of the feel of Vancouver during the Olympics and should be able to take in an event (he wants hockey, I want figure skating) on Tuesday evening. It’s weird because before the Olympics started, I wasn’t very excited about them – just complained about how much money they were costing. Now that they’ve started we’re all so pumped for them. It’s only every 4 years, so you need to enjoy them while they’re here! We’ll let you know how our trip goes

This weekend my office had our annual kick off party. This year it was a road trip to the Hills Health Ranch near 108 Mile, BC. In spite of the lack of snow there was a lot to do. We headed out Friday afternoon and arrived just in time to have dessert and watch the tube run.

Saturday was a full day. We started with a big breakfast followed by a sleigh ride.

The sleigh ride took us to a teepee next to a pond. We had a nice wiener roast lunch and Hannah took part in her first geo cache discovery. Josh was more a fan of the pond.

After the sleigh ride it was time to hit the tube ride. It was quite iced up, but that did not stop the kids. They loved it.

Next up was a magic workshop. A great magician came in and taught us how to do a few tricks. Everyone really enjoyed this.

Next up was dinner. The kids started off the buffet, and we were entertained by a full magic show during dessert.

To top it off the kids got to spend the evening at the pool. On Sunday we were able to sleep in a bit, and let the kids hit the pool again. It was a really great trip.
