Wow, our youngest is 10. Crazy.

Speaking of crazy, we filled our house with all manner of creepy crawlies for his birthday party. We had Dave from Avery Exotics over to entertain the kids. We had tarantulas, lizards, a tortoise, hissing cockroaches, a snake, geckos, a chameleon, and bearded dragons in the basement. So creepy. So cool.

Here a sampling of all the creatures. And kids :)

Josh also got a special gift from Dave. He got a snake skin shed and a tarantula shed. The tarantula shed is pretty creepy. Every time we look at it we think the thing is still alive. Carolyne would love it so much.

And another visitor today. This little guy was hunting mice or moles. There are a fair number of tunnels around and this fox had pounced and dug into one. Not sure if he was rewarded or not. Like the deer yesterday, it was not too worried about me.

While working in the backyard we had a deer come for a visit. It wasn’t the least bit worried about us having a look. I was actually installing cedar shakes when it showed up and it didn’t mind a bit.

I went with Frances and Josh to the Willmann’s farm to check out the new lambs and calves. We were very fortunate to witness a calf being born. Here are a few shots from the evening.

Seconds old calf. As soon as the calf is born the mother keeps licking the calf to help encourage blood flow. Within 10 minutes this little calf was up and walking. Amazing.

Sunday egg hunting

Once again the kids were out in full force searching for the elusive plastic eggs.

This was my favourite. Mitch seems to be missing a couple “hidden” eggs. Good times.

Now this one wasn’t from the egg hunt, but come on, it’s a yellow lab puppy. Who doesn’t love a lab puppy? Only those with black, black hearts :)

Well here’s the long version Big White post. Well long in photos at least. Since this trip was a bit shorter than usual we ended up packing in all the same stuff into a shorter time. Since I wanted to enjoy a lot of that “stuff” I did leave the camera at the condo more that usual. That said, I still ended up with ski, tubing and skating photos.

Just a quick peek for now. The drive home always feels long. I’m sleepy. I’m still editing and uploading basketball photos. Here is Ethan, Josh, Mike, Julie and Frances on the top half of Kalina’s Rainbow just after the Sun Rype Bowl. I’ll have more to show soon.

Here’s a bit more evidence in my favour. As fun as it is outside, this certainly doesn’t feel like March.

Hannah’s no slouch when it comes to snowball fights.

Finally there’s enough snow to jump from the tree fort.

J started construction on a bunker. Hannah attacked him from the deck.

I suppose I shouldn’t complain that we’re getting mid winter snow in March. We’ve still got a ski trip planned for spring break so we might as well stay acclimated to the snow. Happy winter all!

Backyard snow day

It kind of felt like winter today. That’s a good enough reason to get outside and enjoy what little of winter we’ve actually had. Today was tube testing. We’ve got a fast one and a slow one. Hannah ended up getting lodged in a pile of knocked down trees because she couldn’t stop the fast one. Good times.

There was even time for a little relaxation.
